SHOP LOCAL: ON THE BUS!

News

Here at the Spirit of Harrogate, we are dedicated to celebrating our home town and county in all its glory. From using 12 hand-picked botanicals from local kitchen garden at Rudding Park in our London Dry to celebrating Yorkshire Rhubarb in our famous Rhubarb Gin, down to the very water we use in the distillation process of each and every wonderful bottle. We celebrate our whole county, it’s not just about us! Harrogate is full of independent and unique stores, as fascinated with the history and culture as we are and we’re here for each and every one of them. The Sunday Freeway is a service which brings people to the town centre, in an environmentally friendly and entirely free way. They have already brought 70% more customers to the town centre to enjoy everything that Harrogate has to offer- including gin!

We are so excited to continue our shop local push in this fantastic way. Since the discovery of the famous Tewit Well in 1571 Harrogate has always been a place to relax, indulge and socialise and we want to make it accessible to everyone! The Harrogate Bus Company links Bilton, Dene Park, The Knox, Jennyfield, and Pannal Ash with the town centre via the 2A, 2B, 3 and 6 services, and these electric services will now continue to run free of charge for anyone wishing to hop on!

The Harrogate Bus Company’s CEO Alex Hornby said: “This is amazing news for everyone in Harrogate. This welcome funding means we can continue running our free Harrogate Electrics buses every Sunday, which deliver a significant boost to other locally owned businesses in the town centre.

“It’s particularly encouraging to be able to count on such generous support from The Spirit of Harrogate – we’re both proud to be based in this beautiful town and like us, they fully appreciate the positive contribution these free buses are making to Harrogate’s Sunday economy.

“We’re delighted to report a 70 per cent rise in customer numbers enjoyed travelling on our Harrogate Electrics buses in March with our Sunday Freeway free travel offer – and now that the free services are to continue, there’s surely no better time to leave the car at home, hop on a free bus, relax and enjoy Sundays with all the wonderful things that our town has to offer.”

We’re so excited to play even this small part in continuing this incredible initiative started by the Harrogate Bus Company. A greener, quieter, healthier town centre is something we’re very passionate about, and this is a step towards all of that. The added benefit, of course, being that we can all responsibly enjoy a drink in one of the many quality establishments our beautiful town has to offer.
