Celebrate Ginuary with these activities

After all the indulgence of Christmas and New Year, you can see why so many people do ‘Dry January’. But we believe the cold and dreary post-festive period is in need of a bit of fun and cheer, which is why we think celebrating ‘Ginuary’ is a brilliant idea.

Here are five amazing experiences to book in January to ensure you have a ‘gin-tastic’ 2019…

Spot our botanicals at Rudding Park

Can you think of anything better than booking yourself and your bestie in for a spa day to counteract the January blues?

Rudding Park in Harrogate opened its brand new £9.5million spa last year which includes the UK’s first rooftop spa garden, designed by award-winning horticulturist Matthew Wilson. The new spa also features the most incredible hydrotherapy infinity pool. If you book your spa day between May and September, make sure you swing by the Rudding Park Kitchen Garden where you can spot 12 of the 24 Slingsby botanicals grown there to make our range of delicious gins.

Get on board The Gin Journey

If you’re a fan of gin (which you are, of course, otherwise you wouldn’t be reading this), can you think of anything more fun than a full-blown gin tour?

The Gin Journey takes a maximum of 20 people on bus tours of London, Manchester, Liverpool or Leeds where you get to try five different gin cocktails (including a delicious rhubarb one from yours truly on the Leeds journey) and gin samples at five different bars. It runs every Saturday starting at 2pm and finishing by 6.30pm. Gin Journey Leeds is £53.30 per person and it looks like there’s still availability in January, so get booking!

Grow and forage your own gin botanicals

Over the last few years, foraging has exploded as a trend with some of the world’s best restaurants now including foraged ingredients from the countryside on their menus. However, foraging is more than just a fad as it’s been part of our culinary heritage dating right back to our hunter-gatherer ancestors. When it comes to drinks, bartenders are increasingly using foraged ingredients to make homemade syrups, and they can make brilliant botanicals for bespoke gin and tonics. There are also some great foraging courses you can book onto such as:

Taste the Wild – offers woodland and coastal foraging courses in Yorkshire and Cumbria

Forage London – has wild food walks in Dorset, London and Hampshire

Forage Fine Foods – Writer and forager Liz Knight hosts wild cookery courses and workshops from her Herefordshire kitchen

January is a brilliant time of year to start planning your own herb garden so you can ‘forage’ your own botanicals to add into your creations at home. The likes of lavender, lemon thyme and rosemary are extremely easy to grow and they smell divine, so why not plan to head out to your local garden centre this month and make a few purchases? You can also take a look at our blog featuring renowned garden designer Matthew Wilson on how to grow your own botanicals here, for more advice.
